Hearing LossIf you are suffering from hearing loss, do not worry, you are not alone. Hearing loss can affect anyone at any age. It can come on gradually or happen suddenly and it can be temporary or permanent. Contact us now for a free initial consultation. Understanding your problem Sound waves travel into your eardrum causing it to vibrate. This vibration passes into the middle ear, where three small bones called the 'ossicles' amplify and conduct the vibrations into your inner ear. Your inner ear contains the cochlea. The cochlea is full of tiny hair cells which move when the vibrations from the ossicles reach them. The movement of the hair cells produces an electrical signal that travels along the auditory nerve to your brain – creating the sounds you hear. There are two main types of hearing loss – sensorineural and conductive. It is possible to have both types present at the same time – something called ‘mixed’ hearing loss. Should you need a hearing aid the experts at Rancho Santa Fe Audiology will personally fit and program the device to suit your individual requirements. We have access to a large range of hearing aids and devices including behind the ear, in the ear and ‘invisible’ aids. Many aids can be so small and unobtrusive that no one would know you were wearing one. We also have an excellent after care service including accessories, batteries and repairs. Being fitted with a hearing device is the customary treatment for hearing loss. However, between 5% and 10% of people with hearing loss are not candidates for hearing aids. When conventional amplification does not help, Rancho Santa Fe Audiology will help you to find an alternative approach to the treatment of your hearing loss. Whatever the cause of your hearing problem we will work with you to find the best possible solution. |
